Event Details

Sponsored by the Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian and the Illinois State Library's Illinois Center for the Book, Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event held the third Thursday in November to encourage families to spend quality time reading together. Put down the electronics, turn off the TV, and enjoy some reading time with your family!

Here are a few fun ideas ...

Have a book-themed dinner.

Visit one of  the library's three StoryWalks.

Read a book aloud and have your child draw pictures to go along with the story.

Have older siblings read to younger siblings.

Read a cookbook and make a snack or dinner or a treat.

Play word games such as Scrabble or Boggle.

Build tents using blankets and chairs and read stories by flashlight under the tents.

Write your own family story.
