Peoria Reads and the Read On Book Club collaborate in the reading of: "Holding the Note" by David Remnick. Join in on the discussions of R&B "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin and Mavis Staples, "Blues & Gospel Singer". Ms. Franklin was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, with producing some of the classic songs we all know today, "Respect", "A Natural Woman", & "Chain of Fools." Ms. Staples not only is a beautiful singer, she also is a civil rights activist with hit songs titled, "I'll Take You There", and "Let's Do It Again." We will explore film clips of their songs, their careers, and how their music captured the world!
